Artist Profile

Emily Florence Quane

I was born in London, UK and grew up in the Peak District, near Manchester. Growing up in the countryside gave me my love of walking and an eye for admiring the landscapes. I also travelled a lot growing up and after university. They all inspired my developing artistic vision when I went on to do a BA Hons degree in Fine Art. After travelling I became a secondary school art which I did for 10 years. I loved teaching and having a positive impact on children’s lives and development. Since moving to New Zealand, I have been so inspired by the amazing and dramatic landscapes right here on my doorstep. Especially the ever-changing colours of the sea and the sky. My main passion is painting and the relationship between 2D and 3D work. My ceramics echo paintings and vice versa. Every piece is unique reflecting the handmade quality of the work. My work is a harmonious fusion of art and nature. The clay I use is not just a medium but a living canvas that echoes the spirit of the environment.
